Worms feed robins
Mice feed coyotes
Cattle feed humans
Everything gives
of itself to sustain life
Our bodies decay
and feed the earth
The air we exhale,
others breathe in
The dance of life
The sacred giving
and receiving
Stop the flow
and you are
out of step
You suddenly think
you are more important
then the field mice
This form will end.
The only thing that
lives on is our love
It flows on like a river
through everything,
until resting in the ocean
it evaporates
lifting into clouds, and
the dance starts again.
Joseph’s ashes will be scattered in the Ohio river.
I thought his choice curious. But now, not so much…
I loved the movie, Collateral Beauty with Will Smith. Your poem is lovely and true. Joseph wanted to put Kelly’s ashes in the water as well and we did. He is all over the mountain top now, in the rain and the mud and the fish and the fire. I want it: that love.
My Sister Friend,
This is beautiful!

I love the poem. Thank you.
Beautiful!
Such a lovely poem, Barb. There’s something so right about mixing the ashes of our beloved with the water.
Thanks so much for sharing this , Barb…your poem touches my heart
